September 28 – October 2

Happy Monday everyone!  This week, students will be introduced to the Performance Task for this unit.  They will also have the opportunity to peer review / edit other student’s work and have their’s checked before the final performance task is turned in next week.

Lesson 1 – Introduction to Performance Task

Students will go over the rubric and instructions for this task.  They will see examples of what the final product should look like and they will have the opportunity to brainstorm what to include in their final product.  They will have the first paragraph for traditions and practices for homework, if they did not complete it in class.

Lesson 2 – Peer Review/Edit & Writing the 2nd Paragraph

Students will take the first part of the lesson to peer review, edit, and revise another student’s first paragraph.  This is an important process that allows the students to see what their peers are doing and so they have some feedback about their own writing.  After the peer review, students will begin writing their second paragraph about values, attitudes and beliefs.  This paragraph will be due the next lesson.

Lesson 3 (Only A &C this week) – Peer Review/Edit & Writing the 3rd Paragraph

Students will do the same as lesson 2 with a peer review and then they will focus on writing the 3rd paragraph about rights and responsibilities.

* F, G, and H do not have a 3rd lesson this week due to the Learning 2.0 Conference on Friday, October 2.

September 14 – 18

Good Morning Everyone!  This is a short week due to CWW Thursday and Friday but it should be a fun one for the students.

This week we are focusing on what it means to be a third culture kid (TCK).  During lesson 1, we will discuss what a TCK is and what that means.  We will also watch a video about TCK’s.  Then the students will break up into groups and they will begin filming their own TCK videos.

Lesson 2 – Only Block A and Block F will have a lesson 2 this week where they will be working on their TCK videos.  Block C will be missed due a visiting author and an assembly on Wednesday morning.  Blocks G & H will only have 1 lesson this week due to CWW.

There are no Lesson 3’s this week.  We all will be enjoying CWW instead!

Weekly Update: Sep 7 – 11

This week students are going to be focusing on culture; the features, rights and responsibilities, and values, attitudes and beliefs.

For Lesson 1, students will finish up looking at the features that make up a culture.  They are comparing and contrasting cultures different from their own.

For Lesson 2, students will focus on the rights and responsibilities within a culture. They will make an opinion continuum about different situations regarding culture and whether or not they believe the situation is a right or a responsibility.   There will be homework for this lesson where they will have to ask parents/guardians about specific rights and responsibilities from their home country.

For Lesson 3, the students will look at their own values, attitudes, and beliefs and how they compare with other students in the class.

Weekly Update: Sep 1 – 4

I hope everyone enjoyed another long weekend.  At least this weekend the weather was a bit more enjoyable.

This week students are finishing up their Stereotyping Assignments.  They will have an opportunity for some peer editing and revising second lesson before turning in the final copy.  Third lesson this week will be a gallery walk of the Stereotyping Assignments so all of the students have the opportunity to view each other’s work.  After the gallery walk, we will start looking at the features of cultures.  We will continue with this topic into next week.

It’s a short week, let’s make it a good one!
